As soon as your user download the app, they can register a account using

Creating Account
After reg, the first thing should do is create your profile(Called as Accounts).
So using account categories, they can indicate here whether they are a STUDENT or a TUTOR. Or in advanced method, using the API, you can use subtype API for another account type.

By using this informations, you can recommends tutors who match student preferences. Showing the recommendation in home page also a best conversion place as every time they open, they can see the recommendations.
